BAR REVIEW: The Dark Bar in the Greek Town area of Chicago, IL

This local Greek Town drinking establishment does not have an official name; it simply goes by “The Dark Bar.” Located next to Greek Town Gyros on the corner of Halsted Street and Jackson Boulevard, this no thrills bar gets it right. They offer beer, food and a great Chicago local as the bartender. Pull up a stool at the bar and George the bartender will treat you right. You can tell George is a Chicagoan by his ability to speak North Side, South Side, Greek and Spanish. Fortunately, the bar has the universal language of alcohol in case you do not speak any of George’s languages.

Do not expect crazy wall decorations, fancy decor or chic lighting at The Dark Bar. Like I stated earlier, it offers the simple amenities of a bar: beer, liquor, food, jukebox, few TV’s, stools, tables and friendly conversation. A beer that stuck out for me was the Miller High Life on draft. Usually you only see Miller High Life in bottles. Apart from being a provider of the high life, The Dark Bar does well by offering Goose Island 312 on draft, among others.

Overall, expect to have a good time at this watering hole in Greek Town. Seriously, one can find many good reasons as to why they should become a local at this great bar. Plus, The Dark Bar is one of the few bars that stay open till 4 a.m. everyday, except on Saturday’s when it is open till 5 a.m.

The Dark Bar is located at 239 South Halsted Street, next to Greek Town Gyros in the Greek Town neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, USA.
