Those of you who are longtime readers of our blog have noticed things look different around here. Our blog has moved for a third (and hopefully last) time. This article delves into some of the technology that drives your favorite beer site, so read on if you're interested.
Beerbin.com runs on Ruby on Rails, a web app framework extracted from Basecamp, project management software from a Chicago company called 37signals. Originally, I wanted to use a Rails blog and self host it, so I used the best rails blog software at the time, Mephisto. Unfortunately, we needed some more robust and better maintained blog software, so I converted the blog to Wordpress, which I self hosted. Wordpress worked really well for us, but our designer wanted to use something simpler and something he knew a lot better, Blogger.
Now the theme from our blog can more closely match up to the theme on beerbin.com. Unfortunately, I haven't figured out a way to import the comments from Wordpress to Blogger for 3 years of articles. I'm going to release the code that I used to move the blog from Wordpress to Blogger soon on GitHub.
