The Fifty 50

BAR REVIEW: The Fifty 50 in the Wicker Park area of Chicago, Illinois

Since appearing on the Wicker Park bar scene about a year ago, The Fifty 50 has gone on to claim the “#1 Neighborhood Bar Award” issued by Chicago Scene for the Wicker Park area. Once you step into this neighborhood bar, you can see why The Fifty 50 has drawn such praise. Delicious comfort food, decent beer selection and friendly bar tenders (John is a great source of information) all add to the great vibe.

Not only does it have a great vibe inside the bar, once the warm weather comes around, the outdoor patio a fun place to people watch and a great place to relax with your dog. During the cold Chicago winters, you will have to do with the widescreen tv’s, warm atmosphere and 40’s found in inside. Yes, I said 40’s. The Fifty 50 has a rotating selection of 40oz beers they offer for $8!

Speaking of beer, for the most part The Fifty 50 has a plain selection, they do offer Goose Island Seasonal on draft and have Delirium Nocturnum in bottles, so it is not as plain as I make it sound.

Overall, The Fifty 50 does impress. The cozy and hip interior, along with the good food and decent beer selection make this (http://beerbin.com/bars?city=Chicago&neighborhood=Wicker+Park) bar a great destination.
The Fifty 50 is located at 2047 West Division Street in the (http://beerbin.com/bars?city=Chicago&neighborhood=Wicker+Park) area of Chicago, Illinois, USA. Phone: (773) 489-5050

The Boundary

BAR REVIEW: The Boundary in the Wicker Park area of Chicago, Illinois

Established in 2007, The Boundary has been making a name for itself in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. Located on the Division Street strip of Wicker Park, The Boundary Tavern & Grille is the new generation of neighborhood bars. The High Definition Televisions broadcast the local team, while the kitchen serves up some fantastic food and the bartenders offer their input on the many beers they serve.

The beer menu at The Boundary did catch me by surprise. Based on the trendy and yuppie vibe of the tavern, I was expecting a plain beer menu. Just like your Grandma said to never judge a book by its cover, The Boundary has an excellent beer menu. They offer a nice selection on draft, but it’s their bottle selection that truly impressed me. Unibroue Trois Pistoles and Anchor Liberty Ale are some of the specialty beers they offer. The best part is their prices are reasonable. Many establishments charge you at least $8 for a bottle of Trois Pistoles, the current price at The Boundary: $6 per bottle.

Overall, The Boundary has all the makings of a bar that will have a strong hold on the Wicker Park area: friendly atmosphere, delicious food, reasonable prices and a wonderful selection of beers.

The Boundary is located at 1932 West Division Street in the Wicker Park area of Chicago, Illinois, USA. Phone: (773) 278 – 1919.

Drinking in the Rush/Division Area

August 14th, 2008

A fair representation of the nightlife scene of Chicago, Illinois is on display at the Rush/Division Area. Locals and out-of-towners gather to drink and celebrate any occasion at the area in and around Division Street and Rush Street. A lot of the hip, trendy restaurants can be found on Rush Street, while the late-night bars are found on Division Street. By late-night, I mean the parties don’t stop till 5 a.m. on Saturday nights. The Rush/Division Area is practically the only area in Chicago that boasts plenty of late-late-night bars (the other area is the Greek town area).

The Rush/Division Area offers you plenty of drinking options. Favorites like Mother’s Too, Finn McCool’s and Butch McGuire’s are found on Division Street. The reason I list these bars as “favorites” is because they offer you more than just the standard “light beers” and Guinness. Goose Island beer, Hacker-Pschorr and some other surprise brews are found at these favorite bars. Of course though, if you are visiting the Rush/Division Area, chances are you are not necessarily worried about what kind of beer they have on tap. You are more interested in the “eye candy” at the bars. Well, fear not reader, the beautiful people of Chicago and the world converge at the Rush/Division nightlife scene. People from all walks of life gather to have fun and make mistakes in the Rush/Division Area

When the music fades and the sun begins to rise, be ready to get a serious case of “the munchies.” Some bars in the Rush/Division area have kitchens that stay open late, like Dublin Bar & Grill, but for the most part be ready to munch on gyros, hot dogs, burgers or pizza. This food is readily available to you at the late-night food establishments of Division Street.

My suggestion on how to make your Rush/Division Area experience that much more enjoyable: rent a Trolley from Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.. There is something special about renting a Trolley, filling it up with booze and cruising the streets of Downtown Chicago as you embark on your next drinking destination. You might be wondering why you would want to rent a Trolley when all the bars in the Rush/Division Area are easily in walking distance. Well my answer to you: Why not?

Trolley or no Trolley, a good time will be had by all at the Rush/Division Area.

Drinking in Chicago

April 12th, 2008

The City of Chicago makes it easy for you to enjoy your Saturday night. First, they provide you with plenty of drinking establishments. Second, there is a neighborhood to accommodate every kind of lifestyle. Third, public transportation is available through out the night. Most importantly, to quote the film Dumb and Dumber: “the beer flows like wine.”

With the 2008 Major League Baseball Season underway, the Wrigleyville neighborhood is your drinking destination. With Wrigley Field as the focus of the mayhem, Clark Street overflows with passionate fans as they head to and back from the Chicago Cubs games. Even when they Cubs do not play at home, the crowds follow their every move on HDTV’s at local bars.

The club scene is pulsing around the Meat Packing District of Chicago. Around Lake Street and Halsted Street you can find hip lounges and serious club goers as they extend the party till sunrise.

One of the most well known drinking districts in Chicago is the Rush/Division area. Out of towners and tourists, along with Chicagoans, embark to this lively section of the Gold Coast district. Current jams and classic hits can be heard from the street.

College life never ends if you drink in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. With DePaul University within its limits, Lincoln Park booms with college bars, dance clubs, Irish pubs, music venues and late night eating spots. The Lincoln Park scene is always happening.

Those are just 4 of the many neighborhoods found across Chicago. Through out the year, we will showcase certain neighborhoods on our blog, so make sure you stay tuned!
